What is Paleo diet?

Paleo diet is a diet based on the types of foods which are supposed to have been eaten by early humans. Such foods consist mainly of meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit. The paleo diet excludes dairy or cereal products and processed food. Basically, it is about food from the Paleolithic era. It is a dietary plan. It is presumed and based on foods which might have been eaten during the Paleolithic era or Stone Age. This food was eaten back from approximately 2.5 million to 10,000 years ago.

What constitutes the Paleo diet?

Lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds are typically include in the paleo diet. Such foods could be obtain by hunting and gathering in the past. Farming emerged about ten thousand years ago and the paleo diet limits its foods that became very common. These foods include legumes and grains. The Paleo diet has other names as well which includes Paleolithic diet, Stone Age diet, hunter-gatherer diet and caveman diet.

Purpose of Paleo diet

The purpose of a paleo diet is to understand and adapt the ways of eating that’s more like what early humans use to eat in the Paleolithic age. The reason and logic behind its purpose is that the human body is genetically mismatch to the modern diet. It emerged with farming practices. This is an idea which is know as the discordance hypothesis. As the time started changing, so did farming. It changed what people ate and also established dairy, grains and legumes as additional staples in the human diet. According to hypothesis, this rapid change in has outpaced the body’s ability to adapt. This mismatch in the diet is believe to be playing an important role in contributing to the prevalence of obesity, diabetes and heart diseases today.
